Bret Caling

Bret serves as Chief Operating Officer of the firm and is a member of the firm’s Management Committee. Based in the Raleigh office, he is responsible for the strategic leadership of the firm’s operations, technology, and client experience functions. He works closely with leadership and team members across the organization to strengthen operational efficiency, enhance the client experience, and ensure the firm has the people, processes, and resources needed to support long-term growth.

Prior to joining Trust Company of the South in 2026, Bret held executive leadership positions within the wealth management industry, overseeing operations, technology, compliance, human resources, and strategic planning. Throughout his career, he has focused on building strong teams, improving processes, and implementing scalable solutions that support sustainable growth while maintaining a high-touch, relationship-driven client experience. He believes that great operations are ultimately about people—creating exceptional experiences for clients while empowering colleagues to do their best work.

Bret graduated from Shepherd University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

Originally from West Virginia, Bret now lives in Apex, North Carolina, with his wife and two daughters. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, cheering on West Virginia University athletics, and creating meaningful memories with his family.
